How do you create the space at the back of the hat?

I Believe That space was created because it wasn’t worked on… So when you arrive at that point, you don’t work all the way round, that’s where you take a pause , turn and work your stitches back to the other side again. That’s how you keep going back and forth to create that space. I hope this helps.
